Job Title: Designer
Reports to: Principal
Position Summary: Assist the team in execution of projects through designing systems and developing construction documents to fully communicate the design intent. Take initiative to develop technically, learn from designers, drafters, and engineers, and grow to understand a comprehensive view of the firm's unique abilities.
Supervisory Responsibility, if any: none
Working Conditions:
90% indoors at firm’s facility
10% indoors or outdoors at project or construction sites where hard-hat is often required. Personal Protective Equipment is provided by firm.
Ability to work outdoors in hot summers and cold winters is required.
Minimal requirements to perform strenuous physical activity in order to navigate construction site.
Special Requirement: Must be able to transport self to and from various construction and work sites.

Duties: |
Essential Functions:
1. Design - Perform design and layout functions required for the project (duct/pipe/conduit sizing and routing, equipment room layout, circuiting/flow diagrams, coordination with building elements and building systems, coordination with outside consultants, and preparing specifications), while coordinating with designers, drafters, and engineers. Review drawings for proper practices, quality, clarity, and consistency with office design standards.
2. Perform field work and construction observation as directed by a designer, the project engineer or principal.
3. Communication - Effectively coordinate with internal and external members of the design team, including firm staff, owners, architects, and other consultants.
4. Perform various miscellaneous administrative practices as needed - Coordinate equipment locations, routings and share pertinent project information with other disciplines and/or consultants in a timely manner. Prepare and explain mark-up drawings in such a way so drafters may learn and become more productive. Assist in the review of shop drawings and specifications. Filing of project documents on the network, completing timesheets, expense reports, etc is required.
3. Perform the duties of Drafter as needed. |
Qualifications: |
Education: Associates Degree (preferred, but not required)
Experience: 2-5 years in related industry experience preferred
Must be of sound mental and emotional fitness during all working hours
Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week if needed
